Rusul Emad

Rusul Emad is an Iraqi-born artist. Raised in Baghdad, she experienced constant war and violence throughout her childhood—an experience that left a profound and lasting imprint on her creative voice. In 2006, following a series of life-threatening events, she and her family fled to the relative safety of Syria. Two years later, in 2008, Rusul resettled in the United States as a refugee, opening the door for her to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming an artist.

Initially studying civil engineering and interior design, she ultimately discovered her passion for fine art and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Arizona State University in 2017. Rusul’s journey through exile, resilience, and hope deeply informs her artistic practice. Her work is layered with emotional and symbolic narratives that reflect displacement, survival, and the pursuit of meaning.

Through imagined dreamlike characters—whether human, creature, animal, or insect—Rusul’s paintings serve as mirrors of emotion. She constructs each composition with symbolic elements that invite viewers to interpret their own truths. Her warm color palettes and detailed scenes often merge Eastern and Western cultural influences, drawing from mythology, antiquity, and personal memory to create powerful, symbolic dreamscapes.

Rusul primarily paints in oil on canvas or Masonite. Her work has been exhibited in the U.S. and internationally, including at the Chianciano Biennale in Italy (2024) and the 14C Art Fair in New Jersey (2025). Her pieces are part of the permanent collection of the Chianciano Art Museum, and she continues to share her evolving story with collectors around the world.

رسل عماد فنانة تشكيلية من مواليد العراق. نشأت في بغداد خلال فترات الحروب والعنف، وهو ما ترك أثرًا عميقًا ودائمًا في أعمالها الفنية. في عام 2006، وبعد سلسلة من الأحداث التي هددت حياتها وحياة أسرتها، اضطرت للهروب إلى سوريا بحثًا عن الأمان. وفي عام 2008، استقرت كلاجئة في الولايات المتحدة، مما فتح أمامها الطريق لتحقيق حلمها بأن تصبح فنانة.

بدأت دراستها في مجال الهندسة المدنية والتصميم الداخلي، لكنها وجدت شغفها الحقيقي في الفنون الجميلة، وتخرجت من جامعة ولاية أريزونا بدرجة البكالوريوس في الفنون الجميلة عام 2017. تجسد أعمال رسل تجربتها كلاجئة وتُعبّر عن مفاهيم مثل التهجير، الصمود، والأمل، مما يضفي على فنها عمقًا وتعقيدًا إنسانيًا.

تعتمد في أعمالها على شخصيات متخيلة تظهر في الأحلام—بشر، مخلوقات، حيوانات، حشرات، وأشياء رمزية—لتخلق بيئات سحرية تحاكي العواطف البشرية وتدعونا لتأملها من منظورنا الخاص. تجمع في لوحاتها بين الرموز الشرقية والغربية، مستلهمة من الأساطير والتاريخ والذاكرة الشخصية، مما يثري طابعها الفني الخاص.

تستخدم رسل غالبًا تقنيات الرسم الزيتي على القماش أو الخشب. شاركت في معارض داخل الولايات المتحدة وخارجها، منها بينالي تشيانتشانو في إيطاليا (2024) ومعرض 14 الفني في نيوجيرسي (2025)، كما أُدرجت أعمالها في المجموعة الدائمة لمتحف تشيانتشانو للفنون. ولا تزال تواصل رحلتها الفنية بمشاركة قصتها مع العالم من خلال فنها.
